This course (Introduction to Sociology 1) aim to introduce students to the subject matter of Sociology. How it emerged during the industrial and political revolutions which occurred in the 18th century. It attempts to bring out with “living” examples, the importance of Sociology to the understanding of human behaviour. Introduction to the basic concepts of sociological analysis. Understanding of the Social Structure and its dynamics in the society. Also the process of socialization and its use in the shaping of human behaviour. The nexus between Sociology and other social science subjects. Critical analyses are attempted to demonstrate that the practice of sociological is not absolute. Students are to ‘practice’ Sociology themselves as they become integrated into this new discipline.
