ii) Functional Group Chemistry; 

A consideration of the Nomenclature, structure, preparation and properties, illustrated with relevant reactions and pharmaceutical examples of the major classes of organic compounds and introducing elements of medicinal chemistry. 

iii) Strength of acids and bases. 

iv) Organometallic compounds. 

(v) Introduction of stereo-chemistry of compounds; structural ostereoisomerism (optical and geometrical); Optical activity and polarimetry; ORD/CD, molecular models and projection formulae; molecular dysimmetry. Racemization and resolution methods. 

(vi) Practicals – To complement the theoretical principles provided above.
